I'LL BE HONEST WITH YOU...
Getting to this point wasn't easy.
I started my handmade business in 2011 not knowing a single thing about running a business. I did all the wrong things, played those stupid Etsy games hoping for sales...getting nowhere and making didly squat for dollars.
I used to sit in my car before clocking into work and just cried because I was so miserable. The one thing that kept me going despite all my failures was that I wasn't taking NO for an answer. I knew I deserved better.
So I invested what little I had in my education, tweaking and implementing different things until I finally stared seeing some success.
This is no joke, I have spent damn near $30,000 on courses and NOT A SINGLE ONE ever taught how important it is to build an audience for your business, let alone how to do it.
Now don't get me wrong, I don't regret those courses, they all helped me. Especially when it came to the base foundation, such as making product lines and the importance of branding. Those are imperative.
But, none of that matters without an audience!
In 2013 I opened an Instagram account and learned how to grow it.
In 2015 I started an email list and learned how to actually use it.
By 2016 I had quit my job because I was making a full-time income.
2017 is when I started to make yearly six-figures and it's also when I started implementing strategies for my website that would result in thousands of organic visitors to my site every month to this day.
All of this is to say that there isn't one single "thing" that will make your handmade business successful.
